April 25th is ANZAC day, so a small tribute is in order. This pic is of Anzac Cove today (although current road works are altering this view, but that's another story) and you can see just how small an area the beach head was!

Most Anzac units landing at Anzac Cove wore British-issue caps, but when after the war George Lambert was commissioned to paint that scene he was instructed to show them with slouch hats.

The photograph above shows one of the difficulties the troops faced on Gallipoli. Before bringing in troops for the big battle of August, it was necessary to provide stores of water. The great platform leveled for water tanks above Anzac Cove is seen here, and troops are dragging the water tanks up the hill to get them into position.

Huthwaite was a trooper of the 1st Australian Light Horse Brigade, native of Goulburn, NSW, who died of wounds on 5 November 1917. He is seen smoking a pipe at No 1 Outpost.
